About

AMCCP launch, May 2007.

The Australasian Mayors Council for Climate Protection (AMCCP) was established in May 2007 at ICLEI Oceania’s Accelerating Now! Conference and works to build the capacity of local government to undertake action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address the impacts of climate change.

'climate mayors' is the website of the AMCCP.

The AMCCP is a nonpartisan, local government advocacy body for councils participating in the ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability Cities / Communities for Climate Protection Campaign across Australia and New Zealand.

ICLEI Oceania is the secretariat of the AMCCP.

The AMCCP:

  • advocates an agenda for accelerated action on climate change
  • forges innovative partnerships
  • identifies opportunities for collective action
  • identifies and works to overcome barriers to creating carbon neutral communities
  • broadens the base of technical expertise and on-the-ground experience available to participating CCP councils.
